What is it?
A transformation plan is a structured concept that helps companies plan and implement their decarbonisation strategy all the way to climate neutrality. In many cases it qualifies for support under EU funding programmes for energy and resource efficiency in industry.
We begin by determining your carbon footprint, covering at least Scope 1 and Scope 2 and, where you wish, selected elements of Scope 3.
From this baseline, we derive a binding reduction target, typically a cut of at least 40 per cent, that the plan is designed to meet.
A transformation plan maps out the optimal route to decarbonising your company. As a first stage, it sets out how to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by at least 40 per cent within the coming ten years, alongside a long-term outlook for reaching full climate neutrality.
It always comprises the following key elements:
- the current energy baseline, including a greenhouse gas inventory
- a clear commitment to, and definition of, a ten-year target that meets the relevant funding and regulatory requirements
- an action plan to reach the target, based on the Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon footprint
- the embedding of climate targets within the organisation
Why do I need it?
Energy has become a decisive cost and risk factor; at the same time, carbon pricing is rising, and customers and banks alike are asking for sustainability data. A transformation plan gives you clarity: you know your carbon footprint, you understand which measures pay off and when, and you steadily reduce your dependence on fossil fuels. At the same time, you meet customer requirements and strengthen your position as an attractive employer.
How does it work?
- Application for funding, which already requires a rough outline of the transformation plan.
- Preparation of the transformation plan, including the carbon footprint, developed together with you, usually within a year of approval.
- Submission of the concept, review, and disbursement of the funding.
How do you benefit from a transformation plan?
- Cost savings through greater efficiency and lower resource consumption
- Resilience: less dependence on fossil fuels and volatile energy prices
- Protection against rising CO₂ prices
- Compliance with customer requirements
- Better terms in the financial sector through demonstrable sustainability
- Meeting legal and regulatory requirements
- Greater employee motivation and easier talent acquisition
So what happens next?
The transformation plan is the starting point of the transformation process. Guided by the action plan and its effect on your carbon footprint, it is reviewed regularly and carried forward with each further step towards decarbonisation. We are glad to support you through implementation along the way.
How much funding is available?
Funding rates and ceilings depend on the specific programme and on company size, with smaller companies typically eligible for higher rates than larger ones. Under the relevant EU funding programmes, a substantial share of the eligible costs of a transformation plan can be covered. We assess which programme fits your case and what level of support you can expect.
Companies that take an active part in recognised energy efficiency and climate protection networks can often qualify for an additional bonus on top of the standard rate.
